We're Not Done Yet

If you happen to be one of my 30 regular readers and you happen to live in the state of Georgia (since my readership consists mostly of my mom and her friends, that probably leaves one or two of you), we're not done changing the world. Today is the big run-off election for the Georgia Senate race, among others, and I urge you to brave the cold and head to the polls one more time.

Okay, I admit I'm a die-hard Democrat, but I would argue that we have yet another opportunity to end partisanship for the sake of politics and choose governing for the sake of the people. I've had the opportunity to meet Jim Martin. He's a fiscal conservative. He's a straight talker and he's as sincere a politician as I've ever seen. He talks about voting for issues based on what's best for the country, not what's best for his party. You won't get that from Saxby Chambless.

It's been hard to separate fact from fiction in this particular Senate race. The ads -- on all sides, but especially the Republican's -- have been extraordinarily negative. Given the country's "throw the bums out" mentality, it shows you just how desperate and yet unbelievably old-school the Republicans are. The Martin campaign is the only one that has made any attempt to tell us about the candidate and what the candidate will do for our state and the country. All I know about Chambless is that he's against Martin.

There's nothing more I'd like to do on this cold Georgia day than hide under a warm blanket with a cup of hot chocolate. But if we really want change in Washington, we've got to put on our big girl panties and go exercise our civic duty. Let's turn this state blue and make history once again!
